Mayowa Lawal x Adidas: Rooted & Reimagined

Tinko Tinko – A Rhythm of Nostalgia. Mayowa Lawal for Adidas 2025

At the launch of the new Adidas LERA store in Lekki Phase 1, something subtle but powerful happened. Between the racks and the buzz, a story was being told, one that didn’t rely on press releases or hashtags. It lived in the artwork.

Mayowa Lawal, creative director of Brothers Lawee, brought his lens to the space, one that fuses fashion with visual art. His contribution wasn’t just décor. It was a mood. A memory. A remix of culture dressed in threads and strokes.

His pieces stand at the intersection of African tradition and modern movement. One work, titled “Tinko Tinko,” pulls from playground rhythms and collective childhood nostalgia. You don’t need a caption to feel it. It hits like something you’ve heard before, even if you can’t place the lyrics.

“This is Lagos energy being documented, preserved, respected,” he said. And it shows.

The Adidas LERA space now holds more than products, it holds reflections. Through Mayowa’s eye, what would’ve been a store opening became a cultural timestamp. Rooted in where we’re from. Reimagined for where we’re going.
