EscapeMag x Mösirè

Mösirè is one of the new faces in Nigeria’s experimental R&B/Afrofusion wave, a singer carving her own lane by blending sensuality, softness, darkness, and rebellion into a sound that feels both fluid and unmistakably hers. Fresh off the release of Skin and Never, she’s entering a new era where personality leads production, emotion shapes vocal texture, and genre bends itself to her mood rather than the other way around.

In this conversation with EscapeMag, she talks about energy-led storytelling, creative vulnerability, and the parts of herself she’s ready to unveil next.

INTERVIEW

1. Your music balances sass, playfulness, and vulnerability in a very intentional way. When you’re building a song, how do you decide which part of your personality leads the storytelling?

It depends. It could be the energy I feel at the moment, the energy the beat gives me, or the energy I get from a melody. I just indulge and ride the wave.

It’s always a dance between the different sides of me and the rhythm.

2. Skin and Never introduce a softer, more daring side of your artistry. What did creating those records teach you about your voice, and what emotions or experiences gave you confidence to lean into that shift?

For both records, I’d say they really showed me how different energies influence my vocal texture. They’re both sensual songs, but Skin leans more into vulnerability in a soft way, while Never is more daring, taking a darker tone.

As for the emotions and experiences — music has always felt like an expression of self. Expressing myself on Skin and Never came naturally. Putting them out didn’t. It felt like walking around naked.

But I love my art more.

3. You move between R&B, Dancehall, Soul, Pop, and Afro without losing your identity. What does “home” sound like for you? What elements must always be present in a Mösirè song?

Home is what feels like me, and I’ve come to accept that what feels like me is as vast as it is precise. I have to feel it in my soul. So no matter the genre or fusion, it has to feel like me.

It could be soulful, nostalgic, sensual, volatile, or cunt — but at the core of it, it’s me in a different font.

4. You’ve hinted that future releases will explore new layers of your personality. As you experiment with sound and collaborate more, what parts of yourself are you most excited to reveal next — softness, rebellion, desire, freedom?

All of them, tbh.

I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.
